Are Ceramic Coatings worth it in Metro Manila?

Updated: May 31, 2022

For lot of people, cars are like prized possessions. Think about it , next to a house cars are one of the biggest investments one can make. Because of the cost of entry, most will take care of their car from regularly doing PMS to using high performance aftermarket options to improve the performance of their vehicle. Unfortunately, while most invest in the mechanical maintenance of the vehicle, alot of people don't actually get to maintain the exterior in the same fashion.

One of the factors that contribute to the look of a car is the gloss and reflection as the light hits the paint. Have you ever seen a car on a summer day and just stop and take in the mezmerizing gloss? The depth and brilliance used to mean waxing once every two weeks to once a month or every few months depending on what wax they use. Then do a maintenance detail, or buffing every 6-12 months to bring back the shine when it's needed. But for some people all this work just isn't something they prefer to do when there's other more time efficient options.

As a detailer, i love using different waxes and experimenting with sealants. After all i grew up with an old bottle of meguairs and a big tub of turtle wax as a kid waxing the car with my dad.

But the thing that makes waxing fun is the one thing that makes it not an option for most people, putting on a wax twice a month or monthly just isn't something they can fit into their busy schedule. Coatings, you've probably seen the ads, have friends who've had so called "diamond coatings"

Coatings are all the rage right now so as expected everyone is coming out with their own, but no 2 coatings are the same, all these consumer coatings and fake coatings in the market can make it hard for someone to choose the best paint protection for their vehicle.

There are different types of coatings: acrylic, ceramic, and silicate or glass.

Coatings act like a second clear coat to preserve the life of your paint and keep it in excellent condition. They’re super glossy too, but the gloss is unlike that of a wax or sealant.

They're also Semi-Permanent meaning that to truly remove them you need to abrade them from the surface.

This makes coatings a viable long term option when it comes to Paint Protection.

As pioneers in the local coating industry we've tested most of the consumer, prosumer and professional only coatings and while most will look and perform within the same level with a small margin, one thing we've learned is very few coatings actually live up to the long term durability claims. The Chemistry behind your coating of choice will dictate whether it will last 5++ years or 5 months, some coatings are more susceptible to failing due to soaps and all purpose cleaners, while a select few can go toe to toe with the most aggressive acids and cleaners and barely get winded. We only offer coatings that can outlast it's durability claim and perform at it's best consistently.

Anyone who's driven in Metro Manila, or any where else knows that our roads can be very unforgiving , from mud to industrial fallout our roads will throw anything at your car's finish, you can be in torrential rain one minute then be in scorching hot sun.

These elements paired with hard water from the hose or car wash, it's a perfect recipe for waterspots. While most coatings will claim protection from waterspots, a good few will actually attract waterspots due to how perfect the waterbeads are, and when the coating doesnt shed the perfect beads due to the surface tension you get waterspots. Now when your coating isn't as chemically resistant as ours, you'll need to polish to remove these waterspots and have to reinstall a coating. Most shops will charge you for this and if it happens enough times you eventually negate the cost benefits of a good coating.
